The Loans Room and Reserve Collection - March 2002

The Loans and Reserve Collection Room - Mar 2002

The battered and borer eaten shelves salvaged from UNTIM in 2000 was all they had that would fit into the small Reserve Collection Room that also doubles as a Loans Counter.

The shelves were already jam-packed with new Bahasa Indonesian books purchased by Asia Foundation and others. More boxes of Indonesian books were piled up in the work rooms because there was nowhere for them to go. They could not go out on the open shelves because they would be a security risk in a country with no bookshops, other libraries or personal resources.

A funding request was made to USAID to built purpose-built shelves to line the walls to make more efficient use of the space.

Also requested was a doorway into the main library. Staff had to walk around the entire courtyard to enter the library from this room!
