Jill Haynes went to Dili to work with the UNTL Librarians on the 14th of June 2003, returning home in late December.
Jill Haynes is one of the founding members of the Canberra Friends of the UNTL Library. Jill took 5 months long service leave to work in Dili between June-Dec 2003.
She returned to Dili in June 2004 where she is working as Apheda Projects Co-ordinator and continues to monitor the UNTL Library project in this capacity.
Jill was very active particularly in training and in dealing with building, cataloguing backlog and IT issues.
- Further training in online loans with Athena was undertaken, and went live when students returned for the new university year.
- Funds made available via APHEDA purchased a photocopier and 4 UPS's.
- Jill held a half day workshop for libraries in Dili in October & there is plenty of interest from a number of organisations for ongoing co-operation. The newly formed Timor-Leste Library and Information Association has been established as a result.
- With the redeployment of wooden shelving, the UNTL courtyard has been turned into an efficient storage space for the massive cataloguing backlog.
- Donated Library shelving and bookends. Finally many bays of donated metal shelves have been erected in the main library to house the rapidly growing collection, including the Reserve Room collection and many bays of catalogued books that had built up in the back rooms.
- 1 UNTL Library staff member has moved to the newly established Engineering Faculty and Library built by the Japanese at Hera. The Library is tiny but comfortable, with wooden shelves and a few study carrels.
