Timor-Leste Library & Information Association established

Inaugural meeting in Dili on Saturday, 17th July, 2004

In a move to further strengthen and improve coordination among the existing information service organizations, the Timor-Leste Library & Information Association (ABITL) has officially been established.

At the inaugural meeting in Dili on Saturday, 17th July, 2004, 28 people representing twenty-two information service organizations, namely from Dili, Baucau, Manatuto, Atauro and Lolotoe met and formally approved ABITL's Constitution and elected a 5 member Board to develop and oversee the Association's activities. Elected five board members are : Drs. Venceslao Do Rego, General Coordinator from UNTL, Cancio Pires, Vice from ONG Lorosae Baucau, Dra. Palmira Pires, East Timor Development Agency, Jose Caetano Guterres, from CAVR Archive Team no Margaretta Evy da Siva, from UNDIL.

The ABITL aims to improve the condition and services of existing and future libraries and information service organizations in Timor-Leste as it considers them to be fundamental resources to quality education.

"The establishment of ABITL is an important step forward in addressing the challenges we face in education in Timor-Leste today, especially in the area of library and information. ABITL aims to focus on training and building the capacity of Timorese working in this field to enable them to provide good quality and professional services to the general community" stated Mr. Venceslao do Rego, General Coordinator of ABITL Board.

Asosiasaun Biblioteka no Informasaun harii iha Timor-Leste

Hodi hametin no haburas koordenasaun entre organizasaun hotu ne'ebé servisu kona-ba biblioteka no informasaun, Asosiasaun Biblioteka no Informasaun (ABITL) harii ofisialmente iha Dili, Timor-Leste.

Tuir reuniaun inagurasaun iha Dili, Sabadu, 17 Jullu 2004, ema nain ruanulu resin ualu (28) reprezentante hosi organizasaun ne'ebé servisu iha informasaun, liu-liu hosi Dili, Baucau, Manatuto, Atauro no Lolotoe halao enkontru no formalamente aprova Konstituisaun ABITL no hili Membru da Diresaun nain lima (5) ne'ebe simu kna'ar atu dirije atividade Asosiasaun nian. Membru dirasaun nain lima ne'e mak hanesan :
